September ,2001
Norbert & Lynn Ensslin, our long
time good friends, invited us for a car camp close to Breckenridge,
Colorado so that we could spend a couple of days climbing in the Tenmile
Range. Norbert & Lynn are very active climbers and have completed
all the 14ers and are now pursuing the 13ers.
This is in addition to an amazing quantity of 5th class rock that also
occupy their incredible energies. Norbert and I have climbed
many wonderful 5th class routes together over the years.
Norbert, Lynn, and
Cosima ascending Crystal Peak
Crystal Peak is a high
Colorado 13er, and one of the Centennial Peaks of Colorado; this means that it
falls in the 100 highest. It is in the Tenmile Range, which extends from
Breckenridge south to the Continental Divide.
Crystal Peak can be climbed
in all seasons and sees little traffic compared to it's neighboring 14ers, but
is definitely worth a trip. We summited two peaks on our hikes. The
standard route on Crystal Peak is a Class 2 hike. The temperature was quite warm for September, and
wind was moderate.
